Sarah Lyons – An Nead Designs

An Nead  (Pronounced On nyad) is translated as The Nest. 

I selected the placement option as I have a very clear 3 year plan with regard to my future practice.  I am originally from Ireland and am a mature student.  I bought a house in a tourist location in Ireland with the intention of building a studio.   There are quite a few rooks nesting in the garden and this inspired me to name my business An Nead Designs.

My studio is now almost completed,  I am converting a small cottage into letting accommodation.  My plan is to teach in the summer providing residential courses.  To design and make my own work during the winter months. There are 3 galleries within a 10 mile radius with one concentrating on makers working in the local region.  By securing a placement within a teaching environment, in particular adult learning, I am fulfilling an important element of my 3 year plan.
